Association Annual Awards Banquet 2008

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I like to thank everyone who attended this year’s Association Annual Awards Banquet which was held on Dec. 5th. I know the officers who received this year’s awards were happy to see all the support their peers gave them. I wish every member of the Association could attend but I understand that our jails need to be staffed and our communities need protecting. That is way I would also like to thank all of those officers who could not attend, for their continue support of the Association and what it is trying to accomplish.

This year’s Banquet also marked our 30th anniversary as an Association. The Association board was proud to recognize the first members of the Association as well as the class of 1988 for their 20 years of service in the Sheriff’s office and members of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Officers Association. The Association also recognizes the civilians that have worked for 20 years or more that have work for the Sheriff’s Department. They have provided the support behind the scenes for 20 years. It was also nice to see the retirees come back and be honored by the Association for their long years of service in the Sheriff’s office and membership in the Association.

I wish every member of the Association a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May God keep all members and their families in good health and safe in 2009.

Several Issues

Dear Members;
The Association Board is currently addressing several issues and concerns that you have brought up to the board’s attention. Another year is coming to an end. As we look ahead for new leadership, I feel confident that the Association and its members are ready for any changes that will come when the new administration takes office in January. The new Sheriff will bring positive as well negative change depending on your views. The Association must continue and will continue to work hard to assure that our members/officers receive the best working and living conditions they deserve. But the Association board cannot do it by itself, we need your help. The Association has only had a quorum 3 out of the past 4 months. The average attendance at the general membership meetings is about 29 members including the board. There are 800 members in the Association; all members should be able to attend at least one or two meetings a year.
The Board’s goal for next year is to increase attendance to the general membership meeting. The board is committed to representing all members in their fight to achieve respect and gain recognition for their hard work in the Sheriff’s Office. Remember this is YOUR Association, be part of the decision making. Attend the next General membership meeting.

Appreciation night at the Diablos

Membership,
The Association appreciation night at the Diablos on Friday was a great success again. The Association Board will like to thank the 57 members of the Association and their guest for making the event such a great success. Members and their families got to enjoy a great game while they ate hotdogs and hamburgers.
The Board is looking to celebrate its 30th Anniversary in July by having the following events. The Association Board will have the last member appreciation night at the Diablos Friday July 18th. The Board will also give away a Skybox at the Diablos, as a door prize, to one member who attended the General membership meeting in April, May and June, for Saturday July 19th. Three members plus four family or friends will get to enjoy the game in luxury, food and drinks will be provided for them. The celebration will end with the Association Picnic at Wet-N-Wild on Sunday July 20th.
The Board hopes to see all EPCSOA members attend the celebrations in July. The Board understands that members enjoy the time they spend with their love ones, so make plans to have some fun with your family and take them to the ball game or Wet-n-Wild.

SOA membership appreciation night

The first SOA membership appreciation night at the EL Paso Diablos was enjoyed by more than 150 officers and their families. The officers and their families were provided with free hot dogs, hamburgers and cokes. Some officers even enjoyed a cold drink at a discounted price. This was the first of 3 nights we are going to have at the El Paso Diablos. Dates and times are posted on the “Upcoming Events” tab.

Officers who attended Friday’s event not only enjoyed a great game but had a chance to see some old friends and make some new ones. This was a great opportunity for officers from the Jail-Annex, D.T Jail, Patrol, Academy and Admin to just relax and enjoy each other’s company.

I like to thank board members Rudy Liggins, Brian Houston and Fred Castillo for helping hand out the tickets to the members and their families. A Special thanks to Rudy who made sure we had enough tickets, food and drinks for everyone who attended the game. I hope to see an even bigger crowd of officers and their families on June 27th. I have posted some of the pictures, of the officers and their families enjoying the game, in the Media Gallery.
